How to use Text Counter
- Paste your draft and choose Count, Clean whitespace or Deduplicate lines.
- Run the operation. Use the metric that matches the destination’s documented limit.
- Keep a copy of the original before replacing it with cleaned or deduplicated text.
Worked examples
Use the inputs below to compare the selected mode with a known result. Loading an example replaces the current input.
Compare characters with bytes
Input
Hello 世界
Expected result
Characters: 8 Non-whitespace characters: 7 Han characters: 2 English words / number groups: 1 UTF-8 bytes: 12
The space is a character. Each of the two Han characters needs 3 UTF-8 bytes.
Remove exact duplicate lines
Input
apple pear apple Apple
Expected result
apple pear Apple
The first occurrence is retained. The capitalized Apple is a different line.
Normalize plain-text spacing
Input
red blue green
Expected result
red blue green
Indentation and repeated spaces are removed. Do not apply this mode to whitespace-sensitive source code.
What this tool does and does not do
Characters are Unicode code points, not visible glyphs. English words / number groups use an ASCII letter-and-digit pattern; this is not multilingual word segmentation. Paragraphs are separated by blank lines. Reading time is an estimate at 300 counted Han characters / words per minute.
Conversions run in the current browser. Input drafts are temporary; copy or download important results before leaving. See the privacy policy for the separate handling of visits and preferences.
Common questions
Why does an emoji count as several characters?
A visible emoji can contain several Unicode code points, such as joined family members or a skin-tone modifier. This counter reports code points rather than grapheme clusters.
Are blank lines counted as paragraphs?
Paragraphs are nonempty blocks separated by one or more blank lines. A simple newline creates another line, but does not necessarily create another paragraph.
Will deduplication ignore spaces or capitalization?
No. It compares complete lines exactly and preserves the first occurrence. Clean or normalize a copy deliberately if you need a different comparison rule.
